The
invertebrate fauna was evaluated from the viewpoint of endangerment
(Pawlowski and Sterzynska 1993, 1995), who distinguished several
categories of interesting faunistic elements:
1. endemic taxa:
a)
East-Carpathian such as an earth-worm species Allolobophora carpatica,
daddy-long-leg Siro carpaticus, book scorpion Neobisium brevidigittatum,
orthopterans - Isophya stysi and Miramella ebneri carpatica, carabids -
Deltomerus carpaticus and Nebria fuscipes, elater Athous mollis,
chilopod Lithobius silvivagus, diplopods - Beskidia jankowskii and
Karpathophyllon polinskii, caddis-flies - Annitella chomiacensis and
Potamophylax polonicus and other;
b)
South-East-Carpathian species, such as a slug species Trichia bielzii,
book scorpions - Roncus transsilvanicus and Neobisum polnicum, rove
beetles - Othius transsilvanicus and Ocypus biharicus, chrysomelids
Asiorestia transsilvanica and Sclerophaedon carpathicus;
2.
other mountain zoogeographical elements of southern origin (most often
of Balkan-Carpathian and South-Pannonian e.g. a millipede Unciger
transsilvanicus, earth-worms - Octolasion transpadanum and Lumbricus
polyphemus, sandstone-fly Perla pallida dacica, beetles - Pterostichus
jurine, Othius crassus, and Plinthus parreysi, aphis Boerneria depressa
etc.;
3. various
zoogeographical elements, reaching in the Bieszczady mountains their
eastern, western or northern limit of their distribution, e.g.
Heterotrioza chenopodii and Craspedolepta bulgarica, earth-worm Bimastes
parvus, ant Sifolinia karavaievi, beetle Trechus amplicollis, a
dipteran Mycetophila unguiculata etc.;
4.
disjunctive, most often boreal-mountain elements, having their only
records in Poland from the Bieszczady mountains, such as: caddis-fly
Chaetopteryx sahlbergi, aphid Pterocomma ringdahli, a dipteran
Pseudorymosia optiva;
5.
unique species whose only records in Poland come from the Bieszczady
area - the number of such species is fairly high, and their
zoogeographical affiliations are not yet determined;
6.
taxa which were described in the Bieszczady mountains, whose locus
typicus has entered the literature on the subject and will be important
for comparative studies; these include: daddy-long-legs Nemastoma
polnicum and Siro carpaticus, orthopteran Isophya posthumoides, May-fly
Rhithrogena wolosatkae, gall-fly Aulacidea trapogonis celata, beetles -
Pseudanophthalmus pilosellus poloninansis and Xantholinus azuganus
trellai, a spider Lepthyphantes milleri etc.
The
Protection Plan for the Bieszczady Park and its buffer zone, J.
Pawlowski (MS.) included a systematic account of the species divided
into several categories of value for nature conservation. This list
included:
— 112 species
occurring in Poland exclusively within the limits of the Polish part of
the International Reserve of Biosphere “Eastern Carpathians”,
— 115 species new to Poland, known from other countries,
— 48 East-Carpathian endemics,
— 14 East-South-Carpathian endemics,
— 3 West-Carpathians sub-endemics,
— 21 species new to science,
— 19 species new to science with loci typici within the area,
— 2 species known only as locus typicus in the Bieszczady Mountains.
Among
the invertebrates recorded in the Bieszczady National Park, more than
30 species are listed as species protected by law. These include: alpine
rosalia Rosalia alpina, green-gold carabid Carabus auronitens, violet
carabid Carabus violaceus, leather carabid Carabus coriaceus, and purple
emperor Apatura iris.
